Protecting Children’s Rights – A Sustainable Future for All
Nothing comes to the poor automatically. It is their fierce struggle against all odds that fetches them some succour. They require the support of one and all to win their battle for what is due to them as a matter of right. This is true of children’s rights as well.
I see in my friends in Europe the realization of a global citizen in their urge to ensure that no child works, or lives in anxiety and fear, to liberate them from oppression, drudgery and exploitation. I draw immense strength from their faith that a world without child labour is possible. I believe that their value for truth and passion to bring about change in the lives of millions of children will liberate children and be redemption for all. I feel that this sprit would resonate, cutting across cultures, nations and societies. In creating a world that would protect children’s rights, Europe would pave the way to celebrate life beyond human. A Europe, that cares and inspires. That uses all its energies to enable the poor win their battles for dignity and self-worth. That gives confidence to cherish finest sentiments and values, to harmonize societies and cultures. That endeavors to resolve deeply contentious issues through debate, dialogue and mutual respect. A Europe that has not given up or lost hope and sparks the conviction, that it is indeed possible to change realities for the poor. |
