GCAP Asia assesses impact of aid
Manila, 15 August 2007. After 50 years of aid flowing into developing countries, poor countries have not seen any clear positive impact but on the contrary found aid to cause a more dismal effect on the economy, environment and social services. ODA is never without a price and price is often too heavy to bear. This was the sentiment of many participants in a conference on Official Development Assistance entitled “Building an Asian People´s Agenda on Aid” organized by the Global Call to Action against Poverty (GCAP). Taking place in Manila, the Philippines, it sought to closely scrutinize what really has been the impact of the huge amounts of aid that flows through developing nations in Asia.
