Mainstreaming Tool

Step 4.
Mainstreaming audit

So, now when the proposal is almost done, use these questions to assess whether the attempt to mainstream has been successful. Find the answers that you should get at the end… ;-)

GOALS

Women and men share them?

Are they promoting gender equality, human rights and sustainability?

NEEDS/POTENTIALS

Whose needs are addressed?

Who identifies them?

Who prioritizes them?

TARGETS

Who is targeted?

How is the target group defined? (as producers, consumers, experts, agents, victims, clients, participants, men and women?)

RESOURCES

What resources are made available?

Who has access to them, who manages them, who controls them?

Comments:

(Men and women should of course share the objectives! And they should also promote equality, sustainability and human rights.

The needs of both women and men should be addressed (if relevant), and both should be involved in the process of identifying and priorising the needs.

Then it should follow quite naturally who is to be targeted. In the whole process though, be aware of your language because it shapes the perception of your proposal. Using the expression "poor women" gives a feeling of them being victimes, which can be avoided by instead saying "women living in poverty".

The target groups should have access to the available resources, but also to their management and the control of them.)

Good luck!
