BRIEF:

Linkages between the LDC-conference, WTO, Financing for Development and Rio+10

NGO’s all over the world have already focused on the Rio+10 summit – the World Summit for Sustainable Development – for a while. The link between social issues, notably poverty, and environment is the general point of departure. And the political aim for the summit has by many been defined as the so-called New Deal. A New Deal between the rich and the poor countries of the world, which enables the combined combating of poverty and global environmental problems. We will focus on the linkages between the global processes in e.g. the WTO, Financing for Development and the Rio+10 Summit, with the aim of engaging the participants in a fundamental debate about the political base for globalisation. Another objective is to discuss ways to ensure that the inter-linkage between the different processes is acknowledged and used positively in negotiations as well as in implementation processes.
