Eurostep at the Third UN Conference for the Least Developed Countries
Would like to invite you to attend a
workshop organized among the activities taking place in the NGO
Forum on LDCs
Title:
CIVIL SOCIETY EUROPEAN ASIAN
PARTNERSHIP
The
Eradication of Poverty: A Global Project Role of States, Civil
Society, Development Cooperation
Date:
Tuesday May 15th 2001
Location:
Swissotel (room II)
Rue du Parnasse, 19 ; 1050 Bruxelles
(Sharing at the Third UN LDC the
European-Asian Partnership on the common issues of poverty
eradication and sustainable development in the era of
globalisation)
This workshop aims to promote a dialogue
with EU institutions, particularly the European Commission and
development-aid institutions on issues that concern the poor and
the needed action by aid institutions, civil society actors, and
state governments.
The unique feature of this workshop will be
the sharing of the Manesar Declaration, drawn up at the South
Asian meeting at Haryana held in September 2000 just outside New
Delhi, India. It reflects the needed Asia European
partnership.
The Workshop will draw attention to issues
of quality of aid and of conditionalities that are repressive to
the freedoms of the poor. This workshop hopes to reflect the
non-negotiables that are required for development aid to respond
"responsibly" to the urgent crisis of deepening poverty
globally
This Eurostep Meeting on sharing the European-Asian partnership
on Eradication of Poverty hopes to build further sensitive
cooperation globally, including all the issues facing the poor of
LDC countries alliance building, cooperative action, and moving
towards a more equal world
