From Rhetoric to Reality We have asked prominent people, from Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America to give us their Vision of a responsible Europe in the World. They have been visions of a Europe built on the richness of cultural diversity, equality, inclusiveness and solidarity. A Europe which uses its wealth and influence responsibly as part of the global community. A Europe which puts poverty eradication and social justice as primary aims in its relationship with developing countries. These visions echo tens of thousands of voices, voices which grow louder and stronger as time passes, voices of citizens from all corners of the world, from within Europe and beyond, which have called on the EU to make poverty history. And the EU has responded…2005 saw Europe show leadership on the world stage. It made big commitments on aid, and big promises on the millennium development goals. It stressed its commitment to tackling world poverty and to making development central to its external actions. But how do make sure Europe deliver on its agenda? How do we broaden, deepen and strengthen the debate? Europe is here to stay. It is our reality, and we can shape its future. We can make of Europe what we want. The debate on our future, and our role in the world, is crucial. A bigger and better debate is necessary – locally, nationally and regionally, in Europe, across the developing world and beyond. The time to debate and shape Europe is now. Join this debate and make your voice heard. Send us a message with your reactions to our Visions. Share your own Vision of a Responsible Europe in the World. Let’s deliver together a Responsible Europe. |
