Brussels. 5 October 2007. Representatives of NGOs from China and Europe discussed the role of NGOs in their respective countries. Meeting in the context of the China-Europe Forum the aim of the two day workshop was to explore the contexts in which NGOs work in both Europe and China, and to identify ways in which cooperation could be established to continue the dialogue. The workshop identified the extensive role that European NGOs play within civil society, involved in a range of activities from the provision of services to an involvement in policy dialogue. It was recognised that in China NGOS faced many constraints, particularly with the absence of any specific regulatory framework for NGOs. The workshop concluded with commitments to continue exchanging views and information.
