The evolution of EU development cooperation after the fall of the Berlin Wall is to be discussed at a conference at the Europeaid info point on Thursday 28 May. Speakers include Koos Richelle ,Director of Europeaid and Mirjam van Reisen, EU development policy consultant and author of ‘Window of Opportunity, EU development Cooperation after the fall of the Berlin Wall'.

‘Window of opportunity' looks at the history and evolution of EU development co-operation policy, the factors that triggered the change and the forces that influenced the direction of that change. It also shows why proposals to bring development co-operation into the areas of diplomatic, defence and security policies will undermine the effectiveness of EU development policies and, hence, weaken and not strengthen the global role of the EU.
