Brussels. 8 October 2007. Following a conference organised by the Commission on 3rd September, 20 Civil Society leaders from Southern Mediterranean, Southern Caucasus, Eastern Europe and EU countries have been writing an open letter to the European Commission President Barosso and the External Relations Commissioner Benita Ferrero Waldner. The letter insists on the need to involve Civil Society as a true partner of the ENP. It also highlights ways in which the European Neighbourhood Policy could be strengthened such as by guaranteeing that further trade liberalization in the region does not lead to negative social and environmental consequences.
