Development policy in EU treaties PDF Print E-mail

As the German Presidency works to finalise the proposals on unlocking the impasse on the EU Constitutional Treaty Eurostep has urged EU leaders to ensure that the outcome makes provision for the EU to play an efective role in the world.  The EU has given leadership in making commitments to finance development and claims to be on target for delivering on those promises.  Eurostep has called on the EU's leaders to ensure that this commitment is reflected in whatever changes are ultimately agreed to the treaties.  In particular Eurostep is calling for the inclusion of the treaty articles as they are now expressed in the Constitutional treaty since these are principally a clarification of the current treaty articles.  See letter to President José Manuel Barroso of the European Commission.  Similar letters have been sent to Hans-Gert Pöttering, President of the European Parliament, and to EU Heads of State and Government.
