Berlin declaration: defining Europe as a responsible actor? PDF Print E-mail

p-012531-00-01h.jpgThursday 8 March. Eurostep sent a letter to EU Member States representations in advance of the informal development ministers meeting due to take place in Bonn on 12/13 March 2007. While European Heads of States are discussing the content of a declaration on the values of Europe to be signed in Berlin for the 50th anniversary of the EU, this letter underlines the need for a Berlin Declaration that would send a very clear signal to citizens in Europe and the developing world, on how the European Union intends to fulfil its role in the interests of its citizens living inside and outside the borders of the Union by playing a responsible role in the new world order. The letter further recalls Eurostep’s expectations that any discussions on revisions of the treaty should fully encompass the clarified provisions on development policy achieved in the process of producing the Constitutional Treaty.
