The Committee of the Regions and the European Commission have jointly launched an initiative called the Atlas of Decentralised Cooperation, an online database on development cooperation which will promote greater information sharing between local and regional authorities in the EU. This action follows the Commission’s recognition in its 2008 Communication, “Local Authorities: Actors for Development”, of the important role local authorities have to play in the EU’s development co-operation, and the unique added value they bring to it.

The Atlas will include detailed interactive maps of local and regional authorities’ development co-operation, presenting the data from both the authorities’ and the developing countries’ points of view.

On Wednesday 6 October 2010, a workshop will be held to present the Atlas, open to anyone involved in development co-operation, as part of the Open Days event to be held from 4-7 October in the headquarters of the Committee of the Regions in Brussels.
