Following the ratification of the Constitution by the Latvian Parliament on 2 June 2005, the Prime Minister Aigars Kalvitis declared that the “negative attitudes towards the European Constitution in a number of Member States can be explained not by the content of the treaty itself but by a skewed vision of the future of Europe, which did not offer clear answers to the important questions for each European: enlargement, fair competition and social questions”
